Common Pet Food Packaging Challenges
Pet food line design should begin with product behavior and then move to pack weight and package format. A system that runs dry kibble well will not automatically handle fragile freeze-dried food or sticky wet meat.
Dry and Sticky Flow
Vibration feeds dry kibble effectively, but wet meat and fish chunks can remain inside standard hoppers. Dimpled surfaces, scraper hoppers or screw feeding improve discharge for sticky products.
Product Breakage
Freeze-dried food and brittle treats can crumble during aggressive vibration or long drops. Gentle feeder settings, reduced drop heights and buffered discharge limit breakage and fines.
Pack-Weight Changes
Small treat pouches and large kibble bags require different hopper volumes and weighing ranges. Product-matched hopper capacity and discharge openings maintain stable output across the required pack sizes.
Formula Changeovers
Fat, flavor coatings and wet residue may remain on product-contact components. Removable hoppers and accessible stainless steel surfaces simplify cleaning and reduce carryover between formulas.
