Common Fresh Fruit Packaging Challenges
Fresh fruit behaves differently from dry or frozen products. It can bruise during a long drop, roll out of the container or prevent a clamshell from closing when the filling process is not properly controlled.
Bruising and Drops
Long drops and aggressive vibration can bruise soft fruit or split its skin. Reduced drop heights and gentle feeder settings limit impact during weighing and filling.
Rolling and Spillage
Blueberries, cherries and similar round fruit can bounce or roll outside small containers. Guided filling chutes keep the product centered over the tray or clamshell.
Weight Variation
Natural differences in fruit size and density can cause underfilled packs or product giveaway. Linear or multihead combination weighing builds each portion around the required target weight.
Clamshell Closing
Overfilled containers or fruit resting on the rim can prevent the lid from locking and may crush the product. Synchronized filling, settling and closing keep fruit below the closure area.
